The JAGDA Poster Exhibition 2000: DESIGN
The Japan Graphic Designers Association Inc. (JAGDA) has organized a special poster exhibition every year since 1983. The series was inaugurated as “The JAGDA Peace Poster Exhibition,” with the aim of calling for world peace, and was subsequently expanded to embrace other themes such as the environment and World Heritage sites. Each year the many posters voluntarily created for these exhibitions by JAGDA members have been exhibited throughout Japan and overseas, arousing great interest and acclaim everywhere.
This year, as we prepare to step across the threshold into the 21st century, we have chosen the topic of design itself. “The JAGDA Poster Exhibition 2000: Design” seeks to encourage a reevaluation of the meaning of design at this important juncture in human history. Through the diverse works created as expressions of the exhibition theme, we aim to reconsider the role of graphic design and to achieve an overview of its possibilities for the future. It is our hope that these posters will arouse an ever deeper awareness of design in ever more people.
We would like to offer our sincere thanks to the many organizations and individuals who supported our aims by cooperating toward the success of this exhibition. We especially wish to recognize the Japan Art Fund, Toppan Printing Co., Ltd., and Takeo Co., Ltd.
