1983年、日本グラフィックデザイナー協会（JAGDA）と広島国際文化財団は、1945年8月6日に米軍により投下された原爆の悲劇を記憶するポスターキャンペーンをスタートしました。
第1作ポスターは、当時JAGDA会長の亀倉雄策氏による「燃え落ちる蝶」。その後、1989年までの7年間と、戦後60周年を機に再開された2005年以降、暴力や戦争、憎しみに対する警告として、毎年1点ずつ新しいポスターが制作されています。
終戦75周年を迎える今年、言うまでもなく、世界平和にはほど遠い状況です。「ヒロシマ・アピールズ」ポスター展は、戦争の残酷な現実やその記憶へ想いを寄せることを促し、「ヒロシマの心」を持ち続ける方法を探っています。
本展のウィーン巡回を記念して、オンライン会議システム「Zoom」を利用したパネルディスカッションを開催します。テーマは集合的記憶、記憶の文化、悲惨な出来事を伝えるコミュニケーション手段としてのデザインなど。日本とオーストリアからそれぞれプレゼンテーションを行い、最後にQ&Aの時間を設けます。

JAGDA広島地区
公益社団法人日本グラフィックデザイナー協会（JAGDA）は約3,000名の会員を擁し、全国的な事業を行うとともに、地域ごとの活動も行っている。広島地区は「ヒロシマ・アピールズ」事業を運営。広島市長へのポスター贈呈や、広島平和記念資料館をはじめとした県内各所での販売、地元会員や学生による平和ポスター展の編成など、デザインを通して平和を希求する活動を行う。同地区より当日は嵐川真次、川原芳夫、関浦通友の3名が登壇。
澁谷克彦（グラフィックデザイナー／2019年版ポスター制作者）
1957年東京都生まれ。81年東京藝術大学デザイン科卒業。資生堂宣伝部を経て、現在フリー。多くの広告をはじめ、「AYURA」「ISSEY MIYAKE」などのAD＆デザイン、2012～17年『花椿』誌AD。「SHISEIDO」「クレ・ド・ポー・ ボーテ」などグローバルブランドのグラフィック、パッケージ、空間デザインをトータルにディレクション。女子美術大学教授。主な受賞に亀倉雄策賞など。
ミヒャエル・W・シュナイダー（東京藝術大学准教授［グラフィックデザイン、版画］）
1967年オーストリア生まれ。ウィーン美術大学および東京芸術大学に学び、ヨーロッパ、トルコ、日本、韓国、中国、カナダ、北米、南米で作品を発表。木版画用彫刻刀の代わりに自然の中で見つけた石を用い、木版を叩いて制作する手法を編み出した。また日本留学時代以来、墨、顔料、グラファイトなどの水溶性素材で彩色を施す。インスタレーション、写真撮影、パフォーマンス、音楽とのコラボレーションへも発展。

ドリス・ラン（グラフィックデザイナー／オーストリアデザイン協会会員）
オーストリア・ウィーンで活動するグラフィックデザイナー、タイプデザイナー。ウィーン大学で日本研究を専攻し、ウィーン応用芸術大学で修士号を取得。日本で数年暮らしたことがある。ウィーン応用芸術大学での修了制作であるタイプフェイス「Miai」は、2018年度Joseph Binder Awardで金賞を受賞した。異文化間のコンテクストにおけるデザインに関心を持つ。
スヴェン・イングマー・ティース（グラフィックデザイナー／オーストリアデザイン協会会員）
1969年ドイツ・ハンブルク生まれ。ドイツのブラウンシュヴァイク芸術大学グラフィックデザイン専攻を卒業後、ロンドン、ウィーン、東京でグラフィックデザイナーとして活動。東京で過ごした2年半で日本人の感じ方、考え方、暮らし方に深く興味を持ち、写真集『日本人の部屋』を発表（2007 北山孝雄と共著）。東京・ベルリン・ニューヨーク・上海・ウィーンで暮らす日本人の生活を記録した。
Online Dialogue “Hiroshima Appeals: Talk”

In 1983, the Japan Graphic Designers Association Inc. (JAGDA) and the Hiroshima International Cultural Foundation announced their collaboration on a poster campaign in remembrance of the disastrous atomic bombing by the US Armed Forces on Hiroshima on August 6, 1945.
The first poster, entitled “Burning Butterflies,” was created by Yusaku Kamekura, the president of JAGDA at the time. The project ran from 1983 until 1989 and was then revived in 2005 due to the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II. Every year, a new design is published as a warning against violence, war, hate and misanthropy.
This year we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II. Needless to say, worldwide peace is far from reality. This exhibition therefore calls for attention to and remembrance of the cruel reality of warfare and seeks to keep alive the memory of the “Spirit of Hiroshima.”
On August 6 2020, 12am (CEST) /7pm (JST) we will be holding a panel discussion in English via the online platform zoom on the topics of collective memory, culture of remembrance and design as means of communications in commemoration of these disastrous events.

JAGDA Hiroshima Chapter
The Japan Graphic Designer Association Inc. (JAGDA), with 3,000 members across Japan, organise both nationwide and local activities. Its Hiroshima Chapter conduct a poster campaign Hiroshima Appeals to promote peace with the power of design by coordinating each year’s poster presentation to Mayor of Hiroshima City, distributing posters at various local outlets such as Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, and organising exhibitions of peace posters by local JAGDA members and students. Shinji Arashigawa, Yoshio Kawahara, and Michitomo Sekiura will join the dialogue from Hiroshima.
Katsuhiko Shibuya (graphic designer, author of 2019 edition of Hiroshima Appeals)
Born in Tokyo in 1957. Graduated from the Department of Design, Tokyo University of the Arts in 1981, and joined the Advertising Department of Shiseido the same year. In addition to various advertisings, he art-directed and designed for Ayura, Issey Miyake and more, art-directed Hanatsubaki magazine (2012–17), directed the overall design of graphics, packaging, and space for global brands such as Clé de Peau Beauté and Shiseido. He became freelance in 2017 and now serves as professor at Joshibi University of Art and Design. Major awards include Yusaku Kamekura Design Award, among others.
Michael W. Schneider (Associate Professor, Tokyo University of the Arts)
Born 1967 in Austria, studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and at the Tokyo University of the Arts in Japan. Since 1990 he has worked intensively in the medium of woodblock printing. Instead of the traditional knives, he uses stones found in nature to chisel structures into the wood plates and, since his studies in Japan, water-based substances (Indian ink, pigment, graphite) to ink the plates. He has also been involved in non-traditional approaches to printmaking including installation, photography, performance, and sound as an extension of his printmaking practice. He has exhibited extensively within Europe, Turkey, Japan, Korea, China, Canada, North- and South-America.

Doris Lang (graphic designer)
Doris Lang is a graphic designer and type designer based in Vienna, Austria. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Japanese studies from University of Vienna and a Master’s degree (Magister) from University of Applied Arts Vienna. She lived in Japan for several years. As her diploma project at University of Applied Arts, she developed “Miai” typeface, which won gold at the 2018 Joseph Binder Award. She is interested in design in intercultural contexts.
Sven Ingmar Thies (graphic designer)
Born in Hamburg in 1969, he studied graphic design at the Braunschweig University of Art, Germany. After working in London and Tokyo, he lives and works in Hamburg and Vienna since 1998. During two years he lived in Tokyo he was deeply interested in the way the Japanese feel, think and live, which led him to publish Japanese Rooms (co-authored with Takao Kitayama, 2007) introducing insight into the lives of 82 Japanese citizens in five global cities (Tokyo, Vienna, New York, Shanghai and Berlin) over the course of nine years.
